Day 29 – Merida – Aljucen

SORRY THIS IS LATE - TROUBLE AGAIN WITH INTERNET CONNECTION!

Today we had a short day ahead of us (only about 11 miles or so) so we decided on a later start. After our usual breakfast of coffee and toast with olive oil, we set off at 0845 hrs.

Our main visit today would be to a Roman Dam built some 2000 years ago, and which still stands today. In its day it and two other water reservoirs served the city of Merida. It was an incredible experience to stand on the wall of the dam trying to envisage what it must have been like in Roman times.

We arrived in the very small village of Aljucen around midday and made our way to the local Albergue, which is fairly basic but quite adequate for our needs.  Two little kittens there adopted my shoes and I was very grateful in the morning to find they had not peed in them!

Our other highlight today was our weekly live interview with Brooklands FM. As usual we enjoyed that very much and we will link up with them again next week. To listen to recordings of pour live interviews please go to the left of the screen and click on the appropriate page.
