Today we faced a 20 mile trek so consequently we left at 0530hrs to try and avoid the midday sun as far as possible. Ana Maria, Katrin and I were soon on the path which was difficult to see as it was still dark, notwithstanding that we had all our Xmas tree lights on! Those who have been following the blog will know what I mean!
The first 14 miles or so were cross-country through cork woods, pines and the "embalse de Rio Lobos", where we made the first of our various pit stops today. The scenery was absolutely fantastic. Beautiful rolling hills, the birds singing and otherwise very little noise. Soon we were on our way again arriving at the village of Galisteo at 10.45 a.m.
Galisteo is a beautiful walled city dating back to the 16th century. After an hour or so we decided to move on to Aldehuela del Jerte for lunch arriving there at 1.15p.m. Regretably the only bar in town did not do food so we were forced to carry on to Carcaboso. After leaving Galisteo we travelled along a secondary road with little traffic. However a six mile hike along a tarmac road in the middle of scorching heat is not to be recommended and we ended up rather the worse for wear!
Today we have reason to celebrate as we have reached our half-way point, 450 miles! We have therefore booked ourselves in to a very nice air-conditioned Hostal, instead of our usual Albergue!
It has been a hard walk so far but one full of laughter, some pain and lots of surprises. Time has passed very quickly and we are now looking forward to our next 450 miles.

Well done, congratulations on reaching the half way point. Lots of 'adventures' on the way and no doubt more to come. Hope the feet feel a little rested today, Saturday.
