Day 32 Valdesalor - Casar de Caceres

At 0700 hrs this morning we waited outside our albergue for a taxi we had ordered to take us to Valdesalor.  Twenty minutes later we were there and then it took us about two and a half hours to walk back to Caceres!  As we arrived we met with Michel who was planning to spend the whole day there.  He is a very nice French man with a good sense of humour and we have been delighted to have had his company on parts of our journey.  Sadly he will leave us shortly to take a train to Madrid and from there to Switzerland where he needs to start work again.  He thinks it is going to feel very weird not taking his rucksack to work!  We wish him well.

Last night we had explored the town of Caceres and its beautiful and well preserved houses and palaces.

Today therefore we decided that after a short stop in the town’s main square for a well earned couple of cokes we would be on our way again, this time heading for Casar de Caceres another 11kms away.  As we left the town we met up once again with Katrin who was also just setting off.

Along the way we met some other French pilgrims who, like us, were suffering from the heat.  It has been extremely hot today and we were glad when the walk was over!  We entered the village of Casar de Caceres through a really delightful “paseo” one of the nicest we have seen anywhere on our journey.  This village is well known for its cheese and we hope to try that later tonight.

The Albergue here is free.  It is basic but nor much more so than others where we have paid up to 12 Euros each per night.  The people here are also very friendly and eager to help.  After our experience in Valdesalor, our faith has been restored!

Tomorrow we have 22kms ahead of us to reach the Dam of Alcantara, where we will spend the night at a local Albergue.
