Day 36 Carcaboso - Oliva de Plasencia

RECEPTION IS VERY BAD TODAY SO THE PHOTOS WILL NEED TO WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW!

Today we needed to get to Aldeanueva del Camino 23 miles away.  As yesterday we had done 20 we decided to split our journey into two days and we headed for Oliva de Plasencia and the Albergue there.  This is a detour from the normal path and although it will add a few miles to our total journey, it makes it possible for us to plan the walk to Aldeanueva in two stages.

The walk today was through delightful woods for 14 kms and then about 7 kms along the N630 road.  Through the woods we came across a lot of storks.  The local park rangers have started a pilot scheme where they have prepared old telephone poles with baskets at the top so that the storks can build their nests.  This avoids them doing so on old buildings, churches etc where they cause a fair amount of damage.

As we were resting a Spanish walker came along and we started chatting.  He told us he normally does about 60 kms a day.  He was not much younger than me but I could not imagine trying to do so many kms a day.  In fairness he was only carrying a very small day sack!  We also stopped at Venta Quemada we we came across a group of French pilgrims who were going to try a different route to ours.  We have agreed to meet tomorrow in Aldeanueva.

After a very boring walk along the highway we finally made it to Oliva de Plasencia where we are now sitting in a small but very nice Albergue.  About 20 minutes ago we had our weekly radio interview with Brooklands FM Radio which has been kindly following our walk every week.

Tonight we hope to watch the Bayern Munich v Inter Milan match.  As Katrin is with us we will need to cheer for the German team!

Tomorrow we will continue to Aldeanueva del Camino still some 16 miles away!
