Day 54 Lubian - A Gudinha

The day started worse than the day before with heavy rain and fierce winds, although not as cold.  Carl came to have breakfast with us at Casa Irene and was the first to set off, complaining of pain in his left foot.  Once again the locals advised us against trying to walk the normal path as it was underwater or extremely muddy in most places.

We therefore had no option but to head\for the N525 again which we approached through a small local road which was practically devoid of traffic.  There was heavier fog than we had experienced the day before and the strong winds made it almost impossible to walk straight.

We struggled to reach the top of the A Canda pass at over 4200 feet.  Once over the pass we celebrated having reached Galicia for the first time!  Again it was a shame that we were not able to appreciate the natural beauty of these mountains spoilt only by the numerous motorways and highway intersecting them!

We carried on to the village of Vilavella a couple of miles away where we all stopped for a well deserved cup of coffee.  Ana Maria's shoes were completely soaked and she had to wring out her socks which were sopping wet.  She decided there was no point in wearing dry socks as they wopuld ponly get wet again very quickly.  So sloshing away we continued on our way to A Gudinha where we arrived at the local Albergue at 12.45p.m.

Travelling with us part of the way today were two Argentine girls, both from the province of Misiones, where Ana Maria was born, and from a neighbouring town!  It's a small world.

After a nice hot shower Ana Maria and I headed for one of the local restaurants where we had a typical Galician dish, Octopus!..Lovely!  This afternoon we are hoping to catch the opening match of the World Cup

Hi Have you dried out yet? So much rain. How are the shoes holding out and the insoles?
Thinking of you in all that rain. Can you not stop over somewhere for a day or so and wait for drier weather. |
What fun to meet so many new people, and as you say 'a small world'.
Thinking of you both, love and hugs.
