Day 59 - Ourense - Cea

The sky was overcast this morning with the threat of rain looming high.  Thankfully the rain did not materialise but we had a bit of everything else, wind, cold and sunshine too.(James, please find a new symbol that covers all that!).

From Ourense there are two routes that can be followed.  Nina and the Italians (sounds like a 60's pop group) took the path via Amoeiro but we decided to stick to the more traditional route via the old road to Santiago.  A unique Carballo sign showed us the way.

The way out of Ourense was up a very (very!) steep path rising from about 300 feet to 1500 feet.  My left foot is still troubling me and I struggled up the path!  After a well deserved drink of water and a couple of pain killers we continued on our way.

The path meandered through leafy lanes and country paths most of the way, a fairly unexciting but very pleasant route.  The route passes through a number of little villages, with traditional Horreos, the old granaries,  and a splendid example of an old small vineyard using granite supports for the vines.

Approaching Casasnovas, we spotted Nina and the Italians coming out of the other path and from that point on we followed their footsteps all the way to Cea, our destination for the night.  The village is famous for its bread, which we sampled at lunchtime when we tried the local "Pulpo a la Gallega".

The village square has a very unusual clock tower with a fountain at the base of each of its four sides.  Tomorrow is supposed to be a 22 mile trek but we don't think my foot will last that long so we have decided to stop in Castro Dozon, more or less the halfway point.
