Day 61 Castro Dozon - Laxe - Silleda

As we left our Albergue this morning it was bitterly cold, with freezing fog.  It was only at around 10.15 a.m. that the fog lifted and the sun came out.  Most of the way to Laxe was through paths very close to the N525.  We arrived in Laxe around midday, found the Albergue closed and decided to have lunch.

After lunch we decided we would carry on to Silleda.  My foot has been troubling me and I would like to see a specialist in Santiago.  By going on to Silleda (17 miles) we can now get to Santiago on Sunday instead of Monday as we planned.

The only problem in going on to Silleda apart from the distance, was the fact that there is no Albergue there.  We decided to go and stay at a Hostal.  Much to our surprise on arriving there we found signs indicating an Albergue "Santa Olaia".

It has only been opened for two weeks in a former residential private school for girls.  It has 65 beds most of which are in twin-bedded rooms, and about 16 showers as opposed to the normal 3 or 4! Tonight we hope to catch the England match before having to rush back to the Albergue before they lock us out!

The path from Laxe to Silleda was very pleasant going through leafy lanes where one could be forgiven for thinking you were in the Surrey countryside!  There was a very beautiful Roman bridge which is being refurbished. In one spot we met a group of four Spanish gentlemen having a barbecue.

They had finished the Camino Frances and were on their way home complete with a large camper van which had acted as their support vehicle throughout. They didn't even carry their own rucksacks.  Life's definitely not fair!

In another spot we talked to a local farmer who had just finished milking cows!

As you can see we had a very varied day today!

A sad note today is that in Laxe we left Nina and the 3 Italians, Paolo, Giovanni and Davide who were staying there for the night.  We have promised to meet up with them on Monday for a farewell dinner as they will finish their walk in Santiago.

We will also be meeting up with Karl there as he is going to wait for us to catch up with him!
